Soon No More Buah Keluak At The Food Centre
The airy and bright Tiong Bahru Food Centre perched above Tiong Bahru Market is probably one of my favorite to-go venues for a casual lunch. It's somewhere I would take out-of-town friends to try out local food.
There's an old school stall selling fish slice noodles that I frequent, and if I need to tapau food for whoever and whatever, there's plenty of dependable stalls to choose from. If I don't feel like going to Bedok for chwee kueh, the one at this food centre will have to do, although the chai poh and chilli aren't as satisfying.
Vaguely recall that there's quite a bit of hype about Daisy's Dream Kitchen. That's probably why unconsciously we've been avoiding it. On a recent afternoon when the food centre was relatively empty, and there was no queue in front of this stall, we finally walked up to place our orders. Those smells coming out of the pots were heavenly.
The food's very decent! We tried a couple of its set meals and liked them. Apparently, the stall owners aren't Peranakan, but whatever that came out of the wok is rather delicious. Almost authentic, I guess. But I'm not a total stickler about that, so this will do. Decently packed buah keluak offered in a set meal with chap chye at a hawker centre for S$7.50. That's fairly reasonable, and very novel. Too bad this convenient location (for me) is going to close on 11 March to continue as a new eatery set up at West Coast Road. We'll see when we can pop in to check out its probably wider menu.
