Attempted Dessert

It must have been a weird sort of meal when I decided to peruse the dessert menu. I wondered what an 'osmanthus cake' was. The 'chilled' got my attention. If it was the usual sponge/chiffon cake sort, I'd have passed. My dining companion wasn't exactly sure either. But she was quite keen to try the restaurant's walnut paste/cream (合桃糊). Served piping hot, she said it was pretty decent.

We ordered the osmanthus cake anyway. When the plate of cakes arrived, my memory was jogged. I've eaten it. It's the cold jelly-ish version that I don't mind. Not sweet, and lightly fragranced. Pretty okay. It was only when I started biting chunks off, I realized why I didn't quite fancy it. It had little flower stalks that were most irritating. Didn't feel like chewing on them and swallowing, so I spat them out one by one. Arrrrgh.

Stuck to mainly tea for dessert. First time trying the restaurant's longjing (龙井). They gave us a decent grade that made for good sips after the giant meal. Over-ordered, as usual. Had to tapau some home. Didn't go to waste. The man ate them up for supper.
