When I get tickets to shows these few months, I have to consider the absolutely possibility of bailing out or not going at all if a heavy thunderstorm is going on, and I have prepped no one to sit with Choya at home. I'm not leaving her alone when the thunder rolls.
That night, I thought I'd have to miss opening band 7nightsatsea. The late afternoon to evening thunderstorm stopped in time, and I could swing in without missing more than ten minutes of their set. I haven't seen them live for a while, and it was good to hear them again.
I'm here tonight at Phil Studio mainly for This Will Destroy You (TWDY). I thought they would command a bigger venue, but for some reason, the organizers picked this smaller venue that comfortably fits 300-350 pax. (Capacity is 450 pax but that's really stuffy and horrid.) I've watched TWDY many times in different cities, but this is the first time I'm watching them in this lineup after they announced that the band would split into two lineups last December. Apparently they would remain split as of now, and they'll sort that out in the future.
Core members Jeremy Galindo and Christopher King are breaking up, but are both keeping the band name for now, and offering two lineups on their separate tours in 2025. I am both amused, and so bemused. The band tours with one lineup led by Christopher King; he will be perform with Jesse Kees and Robi Gonzalez, and multi-instrumentalist Masaru Takaku, and perhaps a string quartet or something.
This show in Singapore saw Jeremy Galindo, Johnnie McBryde, Nicholas Huft and Ethan Billips. I have no idea why but Jeremy Galindo was on a stool all night. Perhaps he has severe back pain. He has been sitting down for shows pretty often.
The band started with the familiar 'Three-legged Workhorse' (2007, 'S/T'). Before the final song of 'Little Smoke' (2011, 'Tunnel Blanket'), they played new singles from Jeremy Galindo's new band with Raymond Brown called you, infinite. The band has released a new LP. The songs covered/played tonight from you, infinite were 'Throughlines' and 'Shine Eternal' (February 2025), both from the self-titled LP.
It was totally post-rock gloriousness.
