Hearth Irori & Oden Izakaya

I finally could sit down an evening for a long dinner with V at Hearth. I was remiss and could only buy her this belated birthday dinner after my back-to-back conferences concluded. I had no energy or mind space to have long dinners with friends when there's work to clear, or I would prefer to sleep at 10pm with no alcohol in the system.

Thank goodness V was gracious and didn't mind a belated dinner. We hadn't met in months too! It was very good to have properly caught up and have a good chat. I had a brain fart and forgot to bring along her birthday present. Ugh! I'd just drop it off at her doorstep over the weekend. But STILL.

Had to have the sea bream rice in donabe (tai-meshi). Die die must squeeze it in. That was the first item I ordered the moment I sat down. Even before I asked for a highball. No white wine for me. That was all V's. I wisely stuck to highballs. No mixing of alcohol. Kept the alcohol light and easy. I knew I had a heavy morning at work the next day.

We didn't over order. Had potato salad with ginger and pork, radish with cream cheese, chestnut pork loin, and squid ink sausage. Hearth is really one of my fav izakaya and oden restaurants. The kitchen serves up really good food; nothing over-done on the sauces or fried stuff. Then we gave all our stomach space to the sea bream rice when it arrived. Mmmmmm.
