It's Always About The Food

We have foreign guests in the building. So there was a flurry of activities early in the morning.

There are young interns in our midst. They don't just have to stick to observing. They are allowed to interact with our guests in spite of their youth and all. We don't make interns do only filing and photocopying here! At the start of the day, the interns earnestly asked what they could do and if they were needed for the phototaking session. Since their help wasn't required, I told them to hang around and peek. There would be chances for further conversation at the tea reception later.

There was quite a good spread of food at the tea table. The guests already had breakfast at their hotel, so they weren't too into the dim sum provided. They were interested in conversation. The tea reception was well underway with lots of interesting questions and opinions. The young interns hung around in the wings. They were obviously waiting for an appropriate moment to speak with me.

I stepped aside and turned to the interns. They must be wondering what to do now. I was all ready to say "Yes, go ahead and interact with the guests."

The question put forth was, "Could we eat the food please?" I could only manage a weak nod. It took me all I had not to laugh.

Food..!! <3 <3 How i wish i was an intern in ur company..hehe ! I totally dislike the fact interns are pushed aside to do general admin duties instead of mingling ard & wasted potential learning experiences (my company did, sucks!) It'll be great to have a better mentor & more food haha =P

tuti: totally.

sinlady: HA. yah lor.

orientalQ: no leh. i have to take care of them.

lms: always!

mochalatte: but also, to really take care of interns, it takes so much effort to draft out a plan for them- learning objects/things to do. :( most firms don't do that. plus sitting in an office for 8hrs a day is still very new to them and they don't know what to do with the time.
