There are a couple of very stylish continental restaurants in Phuket. Great jazz restaurants too. But we are not particularly interested in checking them out on short getaways. Every weekend trip, we always want good Thai food in far-flung corners of the island.
Foodies we are not. But the search adds to the whole travel experience. It is very easy to drive around in Phuket. We have our usual favorites and we will always have new restaurants to check out.
Of course we had to stop by Ka Jok See. While it didn't have a signboard, its warm wooden exterior with water screens hinted that this was it. The restaurant had been in business for some 8 years.
Once inside, we were in love with its cosy ecclectic decor and the huge vases of freshly cut flowers. We loved its artistically created peeling paint and chipped walls. The music selection was pretty awesome with its chill-out and bossa nova selections. Ka Jok See was obviously a labor of love for its owner, Khun Lek.
Its menu was limited and it didn't serve desserts. But what it had to offer was fantastic. The menu would change every couple of weeks/months.
We were very impressed by its snapper in curry and pumpkin gravy. We were thoroughly pampered by many complimentary dishes sent to our table.
Looking at our short history of drink orders, the affable host even sent us complimentary expressos and whisky sodas as the evening progressed.
What floored our senses was the transformation of the restaurant into a mini disco after dinner. The staff were all dancing and inviting everyone to join them.
On top of our drinks, there were margarita shots going around. It was refreshing! But it got scary after the fifth round! We couldn't get drunk! It was a long drive back to the hotel!
It was kinda fun dancing! Although I wasn't very impressed by the stripper come-hither vibe and smack-my-ass dancing skills of this particular male dancer. He had a tendency to get too pally. But who knows, some guests might like it! However, when the music turned to hip-hop, it was time for us to leave.
Needless to say, at the end of the night, we left a very generous tip and a promise to return soon.

what's with the fan? is it an al fresco restaurant?
we haven't been to phuket in ages! Sort of forgotten about the place, you know? After your posts, we will look about going there soon. Thanks :)
gerbera: indeed.
opal: oh! hahah. just something to cool down after all those dancing. not al fresco. air-conditioned indoors.
sinlady: check out tripadvisor and see if you like what you see. just don't go to patong. eioow. not sure what sort of resorts you fancy. but they've a couple of new ones that are beautiful. say, phuket pavillions and indigo pearl, the racha...etc.
