Starstruck

I watched Stardust because it was Michelle Pfeiffer and based on Neil Gaiman's graphic novel.

Mind you, I hated the whole idea of romance being the theme of the movie. As a young girl, I dislike date movies. If there is one thing my dates have very quickly learnt, is to never take me out to watch anything in the genre of 'romance'.

Stardust is all the stuff of love and dreams. A true fairytale in every sense of the word. The happily-ever-after. Eioow. But how could I ever hope to resist all the witchy-witch stuff happening in the land of Faerie?!

Ilan Eshkeri was the ideal composer for the soundtrack. He brought out the magic, darkness, mystique and grandeur of Faerie.

So watched it, I did.

It was a riveting adaptation I must say. All those pages coming to life. I loved the dichotomy of the regular rose bushes of the Village of Wall, and, the mind-numbing colors and bustle of Stormhold.

Wow.

Except for Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro, I'm not sure how much acting went on in there. But who cares, the movie told a story. The elaborate movie sets and CGI effects painted sparkling pictures and evil thoughts. And I believed in the storytelling.

It was, pleasant, you know?

Of course I knew how it ended before the end. It would always end in the way things in Faerie were supposed to end. And of course I studiously ignored the somewhat cheesy ending.

Now, why don't they do The Belgariad into a movie and have The Mallorean as a sequel?

no moolah. probably. either that, or not big enough a fan base.

But Serenity happened. so we can all hope!

and...if they procrastinate any longer, the favorites to play Belgarath will die off and no one charismatic will be left.

Methinks the fan base is big enough, it's just too much "in the middle"-not hip enough unlike comics which are perfect for the current MTV like adaptations and not a classic, in other words-the writer has not died and the book's history is too short.

I watched this movie at EW Ang Mo Kio for S$8. I will say that it's quite worth the money because now the peak is slowly picking up as school hols draws nearer. Usually, the blockbusters tend to be aired during school hols. The storyline was okay lah...like the way Michelle Pfeiffer protrayed her character. The two main cast are not quite there yet. Overall, had enjoyed the movie.
