Familiar Whisky

We had a heavy dinner. Full flavors. Lobster noodles, venison and fish.

The Islay Ardbeg Uigeadail's (pronounce 'Oog-a-dal' ) 54.2% ABV cask strength meant that it was great to wind down with. It was dark and rich; deep and peaty. Its long finish teased the palate into a mellow mood.

We also tasted the triple-distilled Lowlands Auchentoshan in its unpeated delicate flavors. The 18 y.o was a tad light for me. It didn't have the character and complexity I expected of a typical 18 y.o.

Like the Balvenie 12 y.o, the Auchentoshan Three Wood in its sherry cask was sweet. It is a lovely choice for a noob whisky drinker. These whiskies are not floral. Nope. They are malty. Chocolatey. Toffee. Think rich fruit.

I think I should pick out some bottles and organize an introductory whisky session for the ladies. What say you?

kachunknorge: can! my ultimate thingy would be to do this tasting thingy and pair it with a meal of kaiseiki. maybe omakase if the venue is right. otoro would be featured significantly on the menu.

mars bar: hehehe. u'd beat me if i say 'the men don't get it'. so okay. welcome. but u be good as gold and sit quietly at the back. no talking. just eat and drink.

natasha: OH! meshing fashion and whisky?! that's an idea. sounds like we've got a plan.........

supercoati: of course i will!! if you will give me an hour and a half of your time on a weekday evening. (maybe a thur?) u can sip it! it's just a tasting! need not finish it.

corsage: woohoo.... it's sounding really good to hear from you girls. i hope to have 60pax or something. not so cosy that everyone will be uncomfortable. but not too big either. at no cost to guests, but by invite only or something. whisky and food, or whisky and handmade stones and clutches; or charity somethng. i'm going sit and think through venue and all. sometime near christmas. maybe late oct or nov. it's going to be so fun!

u know, u've got a great idea there. u haven't done these fun parties for some time. u've always kept them small. why don't u turn this into a fundraiser if u want? whatever the objective. something away from the usual product launches. need a write-up? *grin*

Yay, thanks! Yes, Thurs is good! I need to get into the office at night except on Tues and Thurs. Sad, right?
A contribution to some worthy cause is a fab idea!
