Pro New Media, My Ass

I am seething.

I am angry that I have a paper to write on "New Media" and I can't do my research in the office during work hours.

How on earth do I produce any sort of coherent, suitably cerebral research when the office ban access to so many sites? I don't just want to read MSM. I want to read everything. I can't access Alfian Sa'at's blog. Mr Wang's still okay though.

On other sites labelled as "Arts and Entertainment", loading the webpages takes forever. It's ridiculous that I can't load Esplanade or Sistic quick. How do I produce intelligent remarks and judicious opinions?

I'm not going to be called 'reactionary and antiquated' because I can't get the needed information during official work hours.

I am forced to take my work home and do it outside of the office.

I have to do my research away from the work laptop. And deep into the night with the comfort of a personal internet access.

What do they think we are?

That anything vaguely resembling political content is not to be read in the office? Which will be, ironic.

Are we viewed as children? Are we deemed so childish that we may not read supposedly seditious content? Or do the powers-that-be naively assume that if access to certain websites is allowed, it means the web content is officially sanctioned?

Is this a virtual ivory tower?

Like that, might as well ban internet access altogether.

I've no polite way to express my dissent.

It's like, what the fuck lor.

i can imagine how irritating it must be for you especially when the research concerns new media. isn't it the greatest irony of all?

imp, if I need to access streaming audio/video sites for my media monitoring, they will give me temporary access. But it's dumb having to ask all the time. And I need to be in the know on what the media is doing since I'm in Marcoms rite?
