We haven't had the food by the dodgy roadside stalls yet.
We shuddered when we realized that there was a Hog's Breath Cafe in Jungceylon. I mean, eiooow!! I didn't come to Phuket to look at fast food and shopping malls!
(Don't say anything about Starbucks ah! That's caffeine. A different league...you know?! ;p)
We wanted Thai food. We wanted the dishes that restaurants back home couldn't ever seem to do well. We also wanted the proper spicy sort! Not the mild stuff meant for the farangs.
The Thai friends repeatedly exhorted, "Don't eat restaurants with names to do with elephants and Buddhas in any language!" We heeded their advice. We went looking for royal Thai cuisine and the flavorful tom yam gung in the naam saay version.
We found what we wanted. Good Thai restaurants had populated the island. Lovely.
