All day long, when I picked up my calls, the first reaction people had was to laugh at my ringback tone.
I was like, 'What ringtone?!' I was busy and had no time to check out what was going on. Inititally I was bemused. Then I got irritated.
At dinner, when I finally had some time to myself and the friends, I used their phone to call my cell.
Sweetholyjumpingwatermelon.
My cell rang normally. BUT through the other phone, a bad version of Jingle Bells blared back at me. You couldn't imagine the number of swear words that ran through my head. I couldn't utter them aloud as I was in polite company.
My darling red and white/black telco thought it fun to replace all the phone ringback tones with that inane jingle.
So all day, I've been getting really important work calls and people had to listen to that senseless jingle. You know how stupid that made me feel?
When I got home, I called up the telco and scolded them. They promised to replace it with the usual ringback format by the morning. For good measure, I sent in a written complaint too.
I'm more than annoyed. Why couldn't the telco have the decency to tell me about this 'festive promotional gimmick'? It's not funny, nor festive or cheerful okay.
It's plain stupid. And rude.
I hate having things shoved down my throat. Especially something as personal as a ringback tone that the entire world hears and I don't.

huh? They did that without seeking the subscriber's permission first? Geez.
I'd better check to see if my blue/green/yellow telco did the same imbecilic thing!

this is hilarious indeed! wat a silly ad tactic! how could they just put it up like that? they think it's like the festive google mastheads izzit? backfired i guess, in this case.
Oh. So that's why I've been hearing Christmas jingles when I call my friends. And there I thought they did it themselves.
They can do that?!?!?!?
Uh... what's red and white/black telco? *blur*
well, i might forgive them if its Hall n Oates doing Jingle Bell ROCK or Springsteen doing Merry Christmas Baby....
although it is funny, but i was quite surprised that they don't even informed the subscriber? crazy! so disrespectful! cool down!
you made me thought to call myself too - erh, just in case, you see
Hahahaha... (then rushes to call self on the phone)
kachunknorge - SingTel lah...

Gee... I better check my ringback tone too!
Hee I called myself too..just to check.
Did you always have funky ringtone for callers?
My china mobile has the most horribly cheena ringtone that all my spore friends make fun of when they call my china number.Thing is, I don't know how to get rid of it! And I can't be bothered to call the mobile company cos I wouldnt be able to understand them anyways. So i'm stuck with it lor.
Imagine the consequences if a work counterpart were to call. The impression you would be creating!
I think the orange telco did the same thing to a friend. I was laughing at his cheesy ringback tone and turned out that it wasn't him that chose that tone.
