I loved lil Missy's oats so much that I dreamt about it all night. I asked the helper to do a bowl for me in the adult's version for lunch today. She melted cubes of frozen chicken stock and cooked the oats in them. I shall ask her to try the vegetable stock the next time to see if there's any difference to the taste. I felt like something savory and salty. Fried shallots were added.
Definitely prefer savory oats over the sweeter breakfast version with fruits. That would be okay, but my tastebuds still like savory. It could also be because I don't quite fancy the original taste of the oats per se. So I can't quite stand that overwhelming powdery taste for the morning, even if it has stood overnight in the fridge. Gimme this savory version and I'll happily have it for lunch every day. YUMMMZ.

Ooh.. Looks absolutely yumms! :p
Wahaha.. Think we better not be present next time missy has oats for her meals.. Two scary aunties eyeing her food intently! Heehee.
Quaker Oats does oats now with a bunch of different flavours - banana and apricot and stuff, and they are GOOD. I don't like oats either, but I do like those.
PS you DO realise that eating the toddler's oats was like taking candy from a baby right? :)
that makes a healthier (and much quicker) version of congee!
i must change my mindset about oatmeal. i only eat it for breakfast (with milk and honey).
b.muse: HEHEHE. we'll force the mommy to cook a separate pot for us!
dawn: OEH! *pout* i do like baby food. i've bottles of them in my office- as snacks. ha. and nope- i don't like those sweet ones. i just like the quaker quickcook oats and do it this way. with marmite maybe!
kikare: exactly. can u believe i've never had it beyond the breakfast versions as well? that's why the total fascination with oats now.
I previously thought tat it was chicken congee. hahaa
you take baby food for snacks?!!
okay i'm going to cold storage tomorrow.
i take oats with sugar.
don't cringe.
For a person who hates oats (except oatmeal biscuits. heh), I think I might actually give this a try.
Haha, you are so funny lah! Actually, Latte eats this too, only with meat and celery. :p
Ok, I'll prepare one separate pot and I'll bring SPECIAL ingredients next time!
My mom adds Quaker instant oats in the porridge sometimes. It's healthy and yummy :)
looks so yummy!! must try out one day to prepare it! =)
I love oats for breakfast, and I always add a pinch of salt. Once it's cooked (with half milk and half water), and placed in a bowl, I'd scoop some muesli in and a little bit more cold milk. This gives the bowl of usually boring oats depth and flavour, and some unexpected crunch! Try it will you? :)
Oh man, are we telepathic or what? I had oats for lunch yesterday too! Sweet version though. :)
tuti: hahah. my not very secret secret. i eat bottles of baby food. not the fruity ones- those r sour. but the mashed food type. healthier than chips and chocs!
yuling: Latte eats this too!??!! Now i want to try his version! WANT! PLEASE!
celcilia + moo + coboypb: it's like porridge i think- ang moh style. but i like oats better- more of a bite. porridge is a little mushy to me....
elaine: it's quite tasty. add minced pork or chicken if you like. also tasty.
jomel: i'll try! but i prefer muesli only for breakfast. or i mix with bran.
ice: i've come to the conclusion that when it's about food, we're kinda telepathic! and i thought you might like the sweeter fruit version!
I hate oats! But these definitely look yumz! You sure its oats? Speaking of baby food, I've always wanted to try the fruity ones in the bottles.. Is it good? (now I feel like an idiot)
Haha, I can imagine you signing 'please' like the missy! Latte's version is more flavourful because of the chicken and celery. I beat in an egg and add cheese for him sometimes. Definitely a richer version than missy's. Ok, I'll cook for you the next time. But let's please have dessert. This is getting TOO healthy for me! :p
pebbles: i don't like fruity ones. strange taste and sour. i like fruits fresh. i prefer those mash thingies.
yuling: PLEASE! *bright grin* and okay. we shall have SINFUL dessert. heh.
I tried some of the savoury ones only!
yuling: Ooh sounds yums!! I also want!! hahaha. ;p
