Sunday Brunch

I'm quite fond of Tate Modern, not just for its current displays, but for its food at the Level 2 Cafe and Level 7 restaurant.

This morning, we ditched the fancy hotel lunch and went for brunch at Tate Modern's cafe. Best. I must remind myself that there are good museum cafes around.

The table had fairly safe choices split precisely into either the delicious mushrooms on toast with spinach and a fried duck egg or the properly done smoked salmon with scrambled egg on toast. None of us liked the traditional English breakfast which involves streaky bacon and black pudding.

The coffee wasn't swoon-inducing. But it was a decent cup of caffeine. At least all the servers knew what a flat white is. (as opposed to the dodo one at Natural History Museum) Hmmmph.

It was a luxury to be able to sit down, eat and chat with no particular rush, knowing that after this, we would be roaming around the galleries and checking out the 2 new exhibitions and its very cool museum shop.

Walking in the cold to get to Tate Modern was refreshing, but well, cold. Brrrrrr. So it was really nice to sit down in the warm cafe and stare out of the window into the bleak winterscape.

The last time I ate at the Tate Modern cafe I almost had a heart attack when I saw how much the bill came to! I know it's got a great view but still!

kikare: its extension plans have just been approved. I think they're starting to build- area's all boarded up. Not done yet. Only in 2012. They should do something about the toilets though. NO BAG HOOKS.

dawn: Hmmm. Our brunch incld drinks was like £20per pax.... But it's good food! it's prob the 12.5% svc that makes it painful.

I realise we went to the restaurant - and we paid 70 pounds for four of us, but we shared appetisers and main courses because no one was hungry.
