Not Buying From You, Ever

Many, if not majority of the seafood suppliers sell shark's fin. That's their business revenue. Fine. I'm not in agreement, but market demand and supply rules. We've a long way to go before seafood suppliers cut back on the trade of shark's fin and to an extent, endangered abalone from certain regions. The seafood suppliers can be as rude as they want to those against the eating of shark's fin, behind closed doors of their boardrooms and desks. But I unequivocally object to Thern Da Seafood's insensitive, opprobrious, publicly accessible post on facebook dated November 17 2011.

How can this be a joke? It's not funny. It's way beyond uncool. In that same line, I question the integrity of the marketing communications department and especially the human who posted this. To that end, I'm not sure I like their company policies, environmental sustainability sourcing practices, business directions and marketing strategies. So at the risk of being boorish, I'll say it aloud, "Screw you right back, Thern Da Seafood."

In a matter of minutes today (like about 6.40pm), they've removed the entire facebook page. Too late. Too late to prevent screen grabs, too late to prevent a ruckus among the various communities, and too late for apologies. To me, this is going to be 'sorry no cure hor'. The only apology that will be sincere enough for me, is to pull stocks of shark's fin they've placed at the supermarket. To say sorry in order to put a positive spin to the company's image and continue selling, and earning the revenue from shark's fin, is being a two-faced asshat hypocrite. Didn't this company use their brains before making such a merry statement online? From any and all angles, I'm offended. I'll make it a lifelong decision not to purchase any of their (or their subsidiaries') products or distributed brands.

Addendum: A day later, NTUC Fairprice (supermarkets) announced that it would pull products from Thern Da Seafood off its shelves, as well as stop selling shark's fin by March 2012.

I couldn't stop grinning. NTUC Fairprice, you rock.

Me too! I simply cannot understand how people can still partake in this? Horrible!
