Dr Beer

Microbreweries are quite the rage here in wine-centric Shanghai. After checking out the friends' favorite Boxing Cat Brewery, the next night, we went to Dr Beer for a light dinner and mainly drinks. Pub grub, is pub grub. This one was quite blah, and I'd rather give the space for carbs and calories to beer. I'm not the biggest fan of beer, but I was game to try the microbrewery's five proprietary beers.

I chose to try them all. Ordered the beer sampler which comprised of Wheat, Pilsner, Pale Ale, IPA and Dark Ale. They came in that order in small glasses. The wheat was kinda sparkling and came with a slice of orange which made it taste like a spritzer. The pale ale was pretty okay. The pilsner's my favorite. An easy draught. I'm not fond of the IPA and the Dark Ale. It's not malty enough, and it's a little strange tasting. I love dark beers, and they don't taste like no dark beer I love.

Wahhh. The cigarette smoke in here is like...coming out from a smoke machine. My table was guilty of contributing to the pollution too. Either the bar's exhaust doesn't work so well or they need better ventilation. At least it's spacious, better than their sister bar down the road- Dr Wine. That's small, and really, smoke gets in your eyes. The friends stuck to pints of pilsner, their usual choice for a beer at Dr Beer. Once I was done with the beer sampler, I abandoned the ones I didn't like and ordered a pint of pilsner, just to have a better-tasting end to the night.

The alcohol has been awesome. Well, when it comes down to it, the respective alcohol in its different forms, generally taste (or ought to) the same all over the world. The amount ingested isn't more than what I do at home. Being in a different city hasn't made the vile ones taste good either, but checking out the different bars that I might not normally go to at home is certainly received with more enthusiasm. *hic
