Night View Of Shanghai

Had lunch with friends in the Pudong area and wandered around the unfeeling skyscrapers that are home to many international banks, corporations, firms and hotels. Skipped the malls and chose to stay outside. When we had enough of the cold, we popped into Park Hyatt for drinks late afternoon and to watch whatever sunset the foggy day afforded us.

Weren't interested in the canapes. We've been having too much food. No more food! Drinks would be much better. Besides alcohol, there were plenty of freshly squeezed juices. We were all like, "Hmmm...we need some juices. What should we drink? Oh I know! A Bloody Mary! It's got tomato juice!" Perfect logic eh! According to this logic, all cocktails are healthy too. Yes, we operate like that. Heh. We rejected Absolut as the vodka for the drink and requested for a Belvedere instead.

We've been sticking to our regular forms of alcohol. Whisky, beer and an occasional vodka. Those do fine. No mao tai (茅台) of any sort. So glad that none of us appreciate that. I'm sorry, that drink is just vile, and more than frightening. This late in the afternoon and not quite the evening, I really felt like having a glass of juice. There would be more alcohol to come at dinner and after that. I opted for an orange juice. A real orange juice. Tangy and refreshing. No vodka in there.

Sunset was muggy, brief and not spectacular through the fog. But that's the usual view in Shanghai. The lights outlining the building will shine through the fog, and give you an indication of the city's skyline. When the lights went on, we had a good view. The lights were cool. The hotel is located within the 494.4m tall Shanghai World Financial Centre (上海环球金融中心). We looked straight out to the 420m tall Jin Mao Tower (金茂大夏) and into the skyline of yet another bustling night in the metropolis.

Vantage point from Park Hyatt's bar.
