北京的第一顿晚餐 :: 吃云南菜
First dinner in Beijing, and I took the man to eat Yunnan cuisine at Zhong8lou (中8楼), a chain restaurant that serves up pretty decent stuff. Heeee. The man was curious about what I had eaten in the south. He didn't mind some soup noodles Chinese style, after a whole lot of burgers and steak. I didn't exactly mind easy soup noodles either.
It was just us. We couldn't eat that much. I ordered the usual favorites, plus a slab of Yunnan ham mixed into the salad. The man didn't quite fancy the ham. He figured it'd be better off in a soup stock. The greens were awesome though. There were oranges and pineapples mixed into a really spicy salad. Chilli spicy. I asked for no numbing peppers. YAYYY! The man also had half the roast duck in Yunnan style. It was tiny, but not as fatty as the one in Yunnan. (After that roast duck, he didn't want anymore Peking duck or whatever duck for meals in the city. Heh.)
The kitchen tried to adhere to my request of "No MSG, less salt and less oil." The fried beancurd was so good. Very flavorful mushroom soup. Vegetarian. Awesome. The soup broth for the 'Crossing the Bridge' noodles (过桥米线) already held MSG. Couldn't be helped. But at least it was a fish broth, and while not exactly authentic, it tasted fine. No meat in there except for fish and prawn. Rather satisfying. But I'm about to reach my quota for Chinese food. Shall engineer other sorts of cuisine for the week.
The man likes the food. Now, his interest in Yunnan is piqued. :)))
