Purim
Sundown. The friends and I were seated for a thick brew of Yunnan coffee at International Cafe (国际咖啡屋). Much needed after a long day. Never mind that the caffeine might keep me awake. I was exhausted, and the body could override the racing brain cells. A fitful sleep would be better than no sleep.
I watched the man at the other table tear open his packs of thick cookies and slowly slather dollops of blueberry jam on each one. Interesting. It was Purim. It would be apt, but it couldn't be, could it? What did I know? The man walked over to our table! "In celebration of Purim!" He proclaimed. How wonderful. He's the owner of the cafe, and wanted to share the festivities with the customers this evening.
I didn't get to eat hamantaschen for Purim. But somehow, the universe conspired. I got to eat another version of it! Totally random. I like. Friends, charity work, and a meal together on this day. Blessings indeed.
Chag Purim Sameach!
