Rasa Aroma

[Rasa Aroma has closed as of 2014]

If you're missing Singaporean kopi-o and teh-si, go say hi to Chris and Joo Ping who run Malaysian cafe 'Rasa Aroma'. Off the city centre, the cafe is located in a residential area, but not that difficult to find via GoogleMaps. You could ask somebody, but chances are, they don't know any better than you do.

We stopped by for a drink after lunch. I really didn't want to go into town for a Starbucks. I had a teh-si! Also, there's a western bakery store round the corner that I needed to drop by to stock up on muesli bars. They're my staple diet for brunch, and often, lunch. It isn't that I dislike the food here. But I'm just not a fan of Chinese food in general. A lot of the noodles (米线) use chicken stock for the soup, and to me, it really really stinks. Not that pork stock is any better. Looking at Yunnan's offerings, I'm okay with their fresh vegetables and soup noodles. I'm not bothered to hunt down western food either. I'm not here to eat, and over the years, I've grown less interested in the food of a city. When there're other things to do, food isn't a priority. Still, I miss a hearty salad. Given the nature of our days here, it's much more convenient to grab bread or a muesli bar and call it a meal.

Wasn't in the mood for coffee. So it was a teh-si for me. Oh very nice! A whiff of home, totally. Even though I'm nowhere near homesick, and I like my tea black, it's still nice to have a familiar teh-si. Joo Ping makes a really good cheese cake. I just like it because it's got a faint fragrance without that sour creamy aftertaste, and mostly because it isn't a sweet sort of dessert. I guess adding some variety to the daily intake of muesli bars would be good. The cafe has hired 2 girls who help with the baking and whatever that's needed to be done. I think they do kaya toast too. A fair number of humans pop in for a taste of 'Nanyang' coffee and tea. How very fun.
