Once back in the city, it means I can't quite ignore the social whirl. I finally took a look at the events that people have signed me up for. The friends merrily populated my calendar with events and shows that I haven't said yes to going! I'll deal with them one by one, on a day-by-day basis. None needs any formal rsvp. In any case, I file nil returns. Easier to handle. Will figure out later how tough it will be for the organizers should I change my mind.
Dragged the girlfriend across town for a beer and to view gig photos. Celebrating gig photography and indie music, 'Return of the Kitty' is a showcase of gig photographer Aloysius Lim's cool works. He's always got the eye for the great shots. Sheer luck, one could say. But don't forget the hours spent amidst the crowd, squatting in the pits, heat and rain for that spilt second chance to capture for eternity, that one brilliant shot. His works are loaded on his website Photo Pit Access.
We always see Aloysius lug gear around with that determined look of focus on his face, drenched in perspiration. We know he wants that money shot. It pleases us to no end to finally see him at some gigs as a member of the audience to soak it all up, without gear, and finally relaxing. His framed works on up on the walls of The Pigeonhole till next Wednesday (11 April). Go. See it for yourself the talent and hard work in producing these seemingly effortless shots.
There's music too. What's a gig photography exhibition without a gig? It was a bit strange not to have music last night. I might have been deaf. Didn't hear any in the background till someone randomly took up the guitar. But there'll be music tonight, good tunes. Dream-folk outfit Pleasantry plays at 8pm tonight (5 April), and singer-songwriter Charlie Lim will round it up on 11 April. Brought to you by the good people of The Pigeonhole and KittyWu Records.

One side of the wall. There's another side. But Aloysius has many more photos. The Pigeonhole doesn't have enough walls. |
