While it poured buckets down from the heavens in the early hours of the morning, we were happily ensconced in a karaoke room at the basement of Cuppage Plaza. Don't even ask how I got dragged there. Do.Not.Remember. After dinner, the whole bunch was just spouting random lines from tv, and the sudden inspiration to sing struck, after rehashing lines and lines from random musicals. Not all of us like musicals. I certainly don't. But we'll have one that we don't mind. 'Les Misérables' comes up rather frequently in these conversations. My pick is 'Whistle Down The Wind'. None of us have been to this karaoke joint. Hahaha. We googled, called to book a room and zipped down!
Odd to see the friends without their guitars and gear. But this is one bunch who can really sing. They went for it. There was a ridiculous amount of cheesy fake coconut random videos to the songs. A total cringe moment when the Foos' 'Everlong' came up in a silly palm tree shot. Luckily there were the original MVs too. Lana Del Rey's vocals in 'Video Games' were surprisingly easy to replicate. Temper Trap's 'Sweet Disposition' , Led Zeppelin, Journey, and loud happy numbers came on.
We had the Beastie Boys lined up in the player. Pushed the songs to the front when news broke of Adam Yauch's passing. Gone too soon. I guess this is the way it works. We have to live life without as little regrets as possible. The room belted out 'Fight For Your Right'. Heh. I looked at the friends. I don't think any of us were ever model children by society's standards. We'll always be fighting for our rights. We hang on to our passions and blaze our own path.
