We moseyed to Henry Congressional for the afternoon. The cafe has popped up and will stay till at least January 2013 before the block's tenants need to vacate. What a fun idea. Aromatic strong coffee and lovingly curated tea provided by the cool folks of Smitten. That Speedster machine is a beauty. The other partner takes care of the craft beers, namely bottles of Moor and puts Jungle Beer on tap, and does all the baking.
Spacious and sun-lit, it made us happy. We've missed that big wooden table at Smitten. Not having it seems to have made the cafe less cosy. It's kinda nice to see it at Henry Congressional. Love it. The cafe's got complimentary fudgy chocolate cookies to accompany your tea or coffee, pandan chiffon cake, and flourless chocolate cake, and I forgot what else...some tiny bites. They offer scones that are freshly baked to order. It's only a 15-minute wait, well worth it. :)
Lil'Missy is a huge fan of pandan cake. So we thought to try it since it has been raved about. One bite I had. It's a very good cake for sure. Light and full of real pandan fragrance. It isn't bright green or filled with synthetic pandan essence like what some shops sell. Throughout the afternoon, baker Goh P was stuffing pandan leaves into the blender and churning out cake after cake. Lots of effort go into one healthier (relatively) bake. Impressive.
