The Stone Roses At The Indoor Stadium
Not a big fan of The Stone Roses. I like them enough, just not so much of the vocals. But all right, I really wouldn't mind seeing them in a reunion gig after all these years and all that typical squabbling. They brought the groovy 60s to those secondary school years spent trying to finish up homework. All pretty fun back then. So...this now familiar word, nostalgia. For this word, I went to the gig.
The entire Stadium Walk area was flooded with humans. The restaurants were packed to the brim. Brewerkz's orders were backlogged for at least 30 minutes, so was Jumbo's to-go options. It was crazy. Across the Indoor Stadium at Burger King, the queues were crazy long, and get this, the outlet only sold beef and chicken burgers, NO FISH. Great. Anyway, I had the foresight to have a bite, so I wasn't as grouchy as the hungry friends were. As expected, most people in the audience were around our age. Some were really badly behaved. Either buzzed or drunk. Didn't care. Not acceptable. Most annoying when we were all standing in the pen. Flailing around in tight spaces and inevitably elbowing others in the ribs or face, not cool. We gave them a wide berth.
Ian Brown wore a tee with a print of his own face on it. Unbelievable. (Well, not quite) Duhhh. There was a nice happy-together photo-op at the end of the gig. The four of them held hands and posed. I was there for one reason, to hear the band, and to see John Squire play. He can still burn those guitar strings. Awesome. I wanted to hear one song- 'Fools Gold'. I got it quite early on. Very happy already. It was the one song where there was not that much vocals going on. Hurhurhur. The wah-wah pedal rocked, along with the familiar riffs. Did lots of happy bobbing.
The man pulled my hand to leave. What? No encore? The man was like, of course not! Not after 'I Am The Resurrection'. At last count, there could only be 'Elephant Stone', and if played, it would be a downer. Nothing could possibly come after the rousing 'I Am The Resurrection'. Most people left, and house lights and music came on.
