Continuing The Christmas Cheer

Three Kings' Day. Epiphany. Certainly not cooking any sort of royal meals. Gave lamb-anything a miss too. Wasn't going to make a fancy deal out of it. Convenience worked best. Another sort of impromptu feast befitting our geographical location settled what turned out to be a sumptuous dinner where we fell into a food coma in two hours.

Local seafood superbly stewed, steamed, fried, chilli-fried and whatnot arrived in a steady stream till the table groaned from the weight of the plates and it became difficult to find more space for yet another plate. Accompanied by bowls of wicked sambal belachan, every mouthful was a total sum of happiness. Everyone opted out of having steamed rice. Carbs weren't necessary. Local beer supplied too. Not the tastiest. But it would do when the cold masked the sharpness of the mediocre brew. Single malts were saved as the digestif.

All about the food, yet not entirely about the food. A full table. Friends whom we enjoy sitting down with anytime. In fact, it felt like a regular meal on any other day. These are friends whom we don't just see on special occasions. Impromptu get-togethers, drinks, events, chats. Time has shown that we walk in the same direction on different paths. Laughter, conversation and friendship. So ends the Christmas festivities, but not the spirit which endures long through the year.
