Bought Lotus Culture's ang pow holders from Shop For Social! |
The man and I still receive a ton of ang pows during the Lunar New Year. For those recalcitrant elders, we prepped gift packs in return. We give out a fair number of ang pows too. Not so much to children. There're not many children in the family. And thankfully, this family respects individual choices of procreation, identity and life's paths. For weird members who don't get that (usually of the extended family whom we meet for the first time; I've no idea why there're so many of them popping up year after year), they're quickly educated about our strong opinions and they learn to keep their counsel if they don't wish to hear the retorts.
Many ang pows are given to the staff, the estate's security guards, minders, helpers, etc. I've no issues with giving ang pows. But I will not give ang pows to strange children or to working singles, tradition be damned. I'm not a supporter of using brand new notes. It's just all unnecessary. My banks offered to deliver new notes to me, but I declined. I still have plenty of more-or-less-new notes to use. Which recipient would dare to say they mind and return an ang pow to me if the bank note's got a crease down the middle?
Glad the ang pow holders from Lotus Culture arrived in time for the festive season. Was a little tired of using the usual leather folders and wanted a change. Ordered new silk pouches a few weeks ago. Collected them yesterday and was most pleased with the color combination and the handiwork. Six pockets! Good size. Beautiful items. There're separate charity projects, and then the partnership that the non-profit organisations have with Shop for Social. The website offers a range of handmade fabric items which make great gifts.
