Wild Beasts

Caught the English band on a good night. Wild Beasts played a tight set. Didn't know they would be in town till a few days ago. Total respect for the band who flew out from Bangkok to Singapore today early in the morning and rustled up enough energy to make it count.

The band's sound at Beep Studios was good. Kudos to the tech and sound teams. I like this venue. Small, but feels like a cosy underground club. All it lacks is a bar with good beer. It's always weird to attend a gig that doesn't sell drinks. It's not possible to just walk out and buy a beer since the nearest convenience store is 15min out. If the organizers don't offer drinks, then it's a dry gig, which is fine, I suppose. Just chill out somewhere and don't arrive too early. Quite surprised that so few people attended the gig. There couldn't have been more than 180 people in the space.

Of course Wild Beasts played most tracks from their February 2014 release 'Present Tense', opening with 'Mecca'. They didn't play 'The Fun Powder Plot', but they did 'Hooting & Howling'. All good. My current pick of their albums is still their 2009 'Two Dancers', their second studio album. They ended with 'Wanderlust', 'All The King's Men' and 'Lion's Share'. Not like I love this band so much. Don't even know the band members' last names. I know a couple of songs, a few albums; the band's been around since 2006 and work hard to produce enjoyable sounds and rhythms. Indie rock, bit of electronica and synthpop. Always cool to hear a band live.
