The man and I remember our wedding anniversary, but we don't keep count of the years. Never did any sort of 'wedding photos', no bridal hair or make-up frills, never even bothered with wedding suits, kimonos or gowns, and probably never will. When we have lived together before marriage, that's the start that's significant to us. That was the crucial period in ironing out the kinks. We still haven't found many differences between then and after marriage. He's not my better half. He's a whole person and so am I. We're equal partners. The partnership works for us, and that's that.
Spent this day in the most mundane way possible- waking up in the hotel room after a surprisingly sober night at the good friends' wedding. Although the man and I played minions, we didn't plan to stay over after the wedding dinner and all. It wouldn't be that tiring to drive home after. There wasn't wild drinking. However, a kind Aunt of the bridal couple insisted that we take her hotel room. She wanted to rest in the room between the festivities, but had no intention of staying overnight. In the end, she had so much energy to go shopping instead of snoozing in the room. So it was left paid and pristine for us. There was no way we could wiggle our way out of her sincere and gracious offer. Well, it was a big and comfortable suite. Slept really well. Quite hilarious since we've been living out of hotels recently.
It was very nice to chill out today and wind down over an unhurried lunch with the newly wedded couple. Just us four. As much as the wedding festivities were joyful and filled with love, they were also draining. Of course it's utterly exhausting for me to keep up with the smiles and a cheerful front. Perhaps others don't feel it as much. Whatever it is, it felt good to have a bit of downtime after the hectic rush of wedding prep and ceremonies.
So here we are again on another 18th of October. While I'll quietly note it on this blog, we've not bothered to mark it, celebrate it or get each other gifts or anything like that. We get each other gifts all year round. The man and I agree that we don't need to do OTT gestures to feel special or get that burst of happiness. We get that through the everyday. Life has never hindered love and loving. Don't let it. It's important to me that on this day, we keep it simple and easy- just do whatever we've been doing. That's how I want this partnership to be. Luckily for me, the man hasn't indicated otherwise. :p
