กินปู ซีฟู้ด

All too soon, it was our last night in Pranburi. *wail* A final dinner before we headed back to Bangkok and to our respective lives. Went to a seafood restaurant in Pak Nam Pran (Pranburi estuary) next to the docks that's named Kin Poo (กินปู ซีฟู้ด, literally 'Eat Crab'). It's so local that the signboard and menus don't have English translations. I struggled with some of the descriptions of how each item is cooked. Oof. Left it entirely to the friends to decide on the cooking styles.

The name of the restaurant tells you their star dishes. Order the rest at your own risk. My friends weren't impressed with the soups the last round, so this time, we stuck to safe choices of seafood. Bravely ordered the mussels steamed in lemongrass and ginger. They were fresh, but steamed without any gravy or soup. The pot was completely dried at the bottom. Weird. Tasty though.

On this trip, I've been eating so much cha-om (ชะอม) or 'tropical Acacia'. I've always thought it to be an herb, like coriander, and avoided it. This trip, I quite like it! Even its bitter notes. Young shoots and sprouts. It's quite delicious. I just don't quite fancy the tough stems. The fish dish of mackerel in bean gravy came topped with cha-om.

We came for the crabs. The curry crab that came peeled. Kinda made the dish less exciting. The curry oddly tasted like Twisties. Remember those? Specifically chicken flavored Twisties! Not unwelcome, but rather strange. Got our crab fix properly in the form of four flower crabs, steamed whole. They indicated that the wait would be 20 minutes. Worth it. It came faster than that- we were the only customers at that time. They were small, but so sweet.
