Madras New Woodlands

Our first visit to Madras New Woodlands ironically happened because the queue at Gokul (across the street) was way too long. That was many many years back. We've been steadily having lunches there ever since. Madras New Woodlands has been around since 1983, so I'm sure the restaurant's food has its ups and downs. But yes, do not visit during weekends. Dunno if it's because it's too crowded and the kitchen ran out of food; I've had sad dishes totally unlike those presented on week days. and felt shortchanged. Visit on week days, it's much better.

A pity I never come here early enough for the appam. :( They only make it at breakfast. Grrrrrr. The restaurant's spicy vegetarian set with biryani is my default. They always serve up different dishes, depending on the kitchen's mood for the day. Each time I go, it's something different. Even the sambar can taste different. This afternoon, the tofu tomato curry was delicious, as were the sambar and vegetable curries. All nicely spicy. We always shamelessly ask for extra sambar and rasam. Aside from our vegetarian sets, the friends seized the chance to share an onion rava dosa and masala dosa.

Towards the end of the meal, the very nice Auntie who always serve our table gave us bananas. Heheheh. I was soooo full, but okay, 'Auntie give bananas, we must eat bananas.' I didn't know how the friends could still stuff in their drinks of banana and mango lassi. Those fill you up so much!
