Foo Fighters in 🇸🇬 !

Foo Fighters finally made it to Singapore, again, after 21 years and one botched attempt in 2012. Do you remember that gig at the old old Harbor Pavillion at the World Trade Center with Sonic Youth, but without Beastie Boys? And that autograph-signing at the old-defunct Tower Records. Ahhh, 1996, memories.

We were in Pen A, free standing. Crazy right, for an enochlophobic. I didn't want to buy a separate ticket to sit by myself. The friends looked out for me but there's only so much they can do at gigs. Tonight, I didn't bolt mainly because the people around us were mostly courteous and mindful. The jerks (young local kids who were probably born as the Foos formed) who lit up cigarettes in a venue with the dome shut, and flailing about hitting others, went to the front after we and everyone else around them shot murderous looks. Then there were the assholes who shoved people aside as we left the venue. That, I will never understand. Everyone's trying to get out. The lines are moving. What's the hurry and what's up with the rudeness?

With the dome shut, it was really hot in at the standing pens. Dunno about how the seated rows felt. But in Pen A where people were jumping and dancing, ventilation was poor. But I had a fan and waving it around slowly made it bearable. Oof. I went out to the washrooms and to breathe, and came back with the third round of beers. By now, Sports Hub doesn't seem too bad a venue for gigs. Getting in and out of venue via the trains went smoothly; security queues were brisk, and most importantly, sound was fine.

Luckily the gig didn't begin with 'Everlong' like they did in Bangkok. This isn't an album tour, so it turned to be a night of 'greatest hits'. Heh. The night began with 'I'll Stick Around' from their self-titled debut album in 1995. I'd have loved to have heard 'Long Road To Ruin', but was happy with what the band chose to play. The band came on at 8.05pm, more or less punctual. Hurrah! They didn't stop playing till 10.20pm. Slightly over two hours to hear the best the best the best of them.

We knew all the words to every song. Before the final final final song, they threw in 'Monkey Wrench' which wasn't in the setlist. Yeah, we saw the setlist because E, who somehow always manages to get every setlist, got this one too, typed out in comic sans. LOL. The band played 'Big Me', as they did in Singapore 21 years ago. We knew those lyrics of course, from that debut album, and sang the opening lines for Dave Grohl who got emotional.

What a magical night! So much feels. You had to be there. It was phenomenal. The Foo Fighters are a fabulous, honest band on stage. Aye aye, good old rock 'n roll. Aye aye Seattle. Aye aye Foos, thanks for staying real and sticking with the music.
