We use so much plastic and disposables that harm this earth. I try to do my part to reduce wastage and the use of non-biodegradable items. I try to use boxes to contain food and lemon slices, tomatoes, coriander, spring onions and all that. I'm not a big fan of ziplock bags or cling wrap, although I'm still forced to use them for raw meats. Beeswax wraps can replace disposable paper towels and cling wrap in some sort of food prep. I was going to get beeswax wraps from somewhere, but never got around to putting in an order. When I finally had time to get them, I found Minimakers. Then I was thrilled to see an update about the limited pieces from the collaborative efforts of 'Missy Messy X Minimakers'.
The stylish fabric scraps from Missy Messy were cut out into coherent sizes for Minimakers to transform them into reusable practical wraps for the kitchen. Very nice. Bought a few sizes and luckily for me, the designs I wanted were all in stock because I bought them the moment Missy Messy launched the 'Shop' button at 11am. Hahahah. I don't know if this collaboration is a one-off, but if they offer another batch for sale, I'll likely buy them again, to add on to the stock at home or to hand out as gifts. While I'm not a big fan of pretty crockery, utensils and such, I need them in non-offensive designs. Oof. Obviously I need them to be practical too.
Beeswax wraps are great, especially when the largest pieces cover prep bowls used for marinating and soaking. I got the wraps in time for the weekend in which a batch of hummus would be made for visitors. Chickpeas need to be soaked for hours, so a wrap came in handy to cover the bowl, especially needed now so that dog fur doesn't settle into our food. When the bowl of hummus has been blended, a smaller piece of wrap is used while it chills in the fridge before serving.
