So glad our friends suggested Shin Gi Tai (心技体) for the evening. The man and I have never gotten around to checking out this bar even though I've heard of them for years since their days at Haji Lane. Now at a bigger premise in Telok Ayer, they keep their space cosy and comfortable. Noise levels are surprisingly manageable; one could have a decent conversation here. Reservations are essential since they keep their front door locked and you can't quite walk in. Hurhurhur.
While bar bites are available, larger portions of food isn't a regular fixture offered on Shin Gi Tai's menu unless they've got a guest chef in the kitchen. In addition to steamed gyoza and oden, luckily for us, they offered dinner by way of gyu-don and buta-kakuni (obviously this is for people who love soy and salt; add your own bowl of rice). Drinks were well-mixed. My gin and tonic came as a properly conservative, boring and dependable potion. The table was pleased with how their choices of drinks turned out.
I haven't had a drop of alcohol all week, and I was definitely allowed two glasses of something. The choice of alcohol doesn't matter; it's all alcohol. ABV is the concern. I just have to keep alcohol intake to under 15oz a week. (It's supposed to be 12oz a week, but well...) I'm not an alcoholic. It's not difficult to decline more or stop at a glass or two nowadays. It's even easier to call it a night and stick to sparkling water or something if there's pilates or a gym class the next morning.
