This Pair of Red Shoes

Attended J and I's wedding reception that night. It was the after-party for the formal dinner, which made it perfect for us to pop by after a concert. Held at a chic al fresco hotel bar, the wedding couple provided light bites and cocktails. We knew a fair number of people, and we were mainly there to wish the couple well. It was a very enjoyable hour.

I didn't turn up at the after-party in jeans lah. It was a celebratory occasion after all. Found a casual dress that was perfect for the humidity of a Singapore night. Shook the dust off of an old pair of red slingbacks. I've had them for years...... almost to 20 years. I picked them up from a tiny store somewhere in a small village in Tuscany, Italy. The brand name has worn off and I don't recall things like that. I can't remember which village—either Orvieto or Pitigliano. It was a loooong road trip through the region.

I've re-soled them twice, but that's all I did to it. The leather, and especially those thin strips and its buckle, held steady. It's not as if I only wear them on special occasions. They're not super expensive; the splotch of red complements many of my monochrome hues. I'm honestly stunned by how durable the leather is, and how tight the stitches are. They've held up to many wearings. Wow. The low heels made them a rather comfortable pair to stand and walk in. I almost threw them out a few months back. Now, it feels too sentimental to do so. LOL I shall just keep them around and wear them till they fall apart.
