A Satin White Colander

The hands are not nimble enough to produce decent items from clay. Or rather I have zero interest in pottery. I rather buy them from artists and friends who can create them gorgeous pieces. However I avoid buying bigger pieces of serveware or dinner plates that would catch grease and are too delicate to go into the dishwasher. I don’t want to wash every cup, dish or plate by hand.

J totally surprised me the other day with a most thoughtful gift. She gifted me a bowl. Well, it’s a colander in satin white, beautifully made by Lilly Maetzig from Mäe Ceramics. Unwrapped it and left it on the dining table. Took some time to admire it. I love it!

J has taken up pottery and has been attending classes regularly. Looking at her creations, I'm liking them all! Heh. She said that she has a good teacher who corrects the clay and does a final shaping for her too. Sure the teacher could give plenty of pointers on improvisation especially for newbies whose hands can't seem to shape the clay to a desired angle. But it wouldn't look like these pretty things (even before firing) unless J herself put in loads of effort in moulding and envisioning how they should turn out.

Moved the colander to a few spots in the house, pausing to consider how the vibes feel. Then I settled for a place on a little table in the corner as an art piece. It kinda complemented the color scheme of the flat. In this placement, the bowl is very soothing on the eyes. It won't be neglected. I intend to use it, to hold bread or strawberries, so it would be moved around whenever.

Dyson V11
I bought my first Dyson, V10 at a big discount just before they launched V11. It's such an efficient and powerful enough cordless vacuum! Like you, I'm loving my Dyson and not finding vacuuming as much of a chore to do it more frequently now.
