S's 41st At Table At 7!

Celebrated S's birthday at Karl and Eugenia's home with a private dining menu. The branding has always been 'Table At 7 by Karl and Eugenia'. While Table At 7 on Mohamed Sultan Road has closed its physical restaurant, its catering or private dining services have not ceased. Their food is fabulous; it's popular and has a steady flow of ongoing requests.

We turned up really for the company and the food.  It wasn't a party night, and we went easy on the alcohol. Drinks were modest. A token glass of beer and gin and tonic. We declined all wine. Half the table was recovering from a two-day hangover. Hahahaha. Nope, I have no sympathy for them!

We ate so much belinjo crackers, followed by starters of gado-gado and tauhu telur. After the splendid laksa, gorgeous pieces of ikan goreng belado (with grouper), and cumi-cumi bakar with sambal hijau, all of which were complemented with nasi kuning, artfully marinated and tender chicken and iberico pork sate, it wasn't a surprise that none of us could eat anymore. There were still oxtail rendang, sambal udang petai and stir-fried sweet potato leaves. And more nasi kuning. We were ridiculously stuffed. Embarrassingly, we had to admit defeat and asked to uhhh membawa pulang makanan iniBungkus... Well, this table, in our separate offices and homes, would be having the same bento for lunch and dinner the next day.

Food was still as spectacular as ever. I love Eugenia's laksa. (And prawn noodles/hae mee. These two items are honestly the BEST I've had in many commercial and home kitchens.) It was worth slurping up every bit of the gravy. Eugenia does her Indonesian food right. Spices were spot-on, and all the sambal for the meal were flavorful and packed a punch.

There wasn't any cake or dessert. Good call. BUT, they opted for durians. Birthday boy likes durians. K bought three boxes of red prawn from his dependable dude in Rangoon Road. P and I disappeared far away. While the taste of durian is always better than its smell, WE NO LIKE DURIANS.

Stay smeowlly, S. Wishes to you! Never stop being kaypoh. To your health so that you may ingest many durian-rific calories for years to come.
