Celebrated B's birthday at Spicy Thai-Thai Cafe. What a good idea! B always goes the extra mile to celebrate our birthdays, to celebrate us being alive and well. However, she isn't keen on grand restaurants and such for her own birthday celebrations. So we made her come to a non-air-conditioned kopitiam-style eatery on a cool night. She happily turned up. I haven't stopped by this eatery since it moved to Bedok North. Might as well have a full table gather to order a ton of dishes to eat our fill.
I might have eaten half of the som tam with salted egg, and most of the cha-om omelette. For some reason, I was really happy with eggs tonight. There were plenty of dishes- beehoon with clams, soft-shell crab, minced pork with basil, long beans, grilled squid that came with its roe, chicken wings, deep-fried kangkong, grilled pork collar, and then I lost count. For non-chilli eaters, the fish maw soup was very welcomed. Haven't forgotten its gorgeous spicy-sour dish of steamed catfish. It was as good as I remember. Love the tangy soup it comes in, and the best part- we could ask to top up. Wheeeeeee. BUT. We think there’s a ton of MSG in it, or in some of the gravy in the dishes.
The table stuffed our faces. Stomachs were filled to the brim. We were so full till that we had barely enough space for the birthday cake. It had to be shared in tiny bites, and the rest of the slices were packed home. We had no giant candles for her, but we made do with the usual small ones. She's a year shy of turning 40, so we were nice and gave her only three candles. Hurhurhur.
