Crazy Carbs At Dim Sum

Once in a while, with the right company, we meet for dim sum at Asia Grand Restaurant. Dim sum is great when it's a casual noisy sort of thing. I'm so not keen on dim sum at hotels because not every kitchen can do cheong fun skin well. For now, Asia Grand Restaurant is still our top choice for dim sum, over other venues (say Red Star or Victor's Kitchen) in town.

We went nuts over carbs. Every item on the table held a truckload of carbs! Granted, all of us did a hard workout that morning, and we still have daily walks with the dog(s) but still...... this was a crazy amount of carbs ingested. There were deep-fried bittergourd in pumpkin, har gow, braised beef tripe and peppery pig stomach soup, and... never mind, other things. Then the carbs arrived in the form of steamed carrot cake, steamed rice rolls, custard buns, congee, lupcheong and yuncheong rice. When the glutinous rice appeared, we chortled. "Glutton-nous rice!"

Yeah we ate them all. It was horrifying; there weren't any leftovers. That was muy satisfactorio! I suppose dim sum is good when people are traveling and they don't mind some sort of comfort food in between every other cuisine. We're so spoilt for choices that we never have to eat the same foods all the time. I probably crave for pig stomach soup four times a year! So this lunch was good.
