Happy 54th Singapore!

We're so out of creativity that we've taken to re-hashing popular songs for each year's National Day theme song, and having a choir of humans sing it in its official video, each taking a different verses. The appeal of such a song has to be to the masses, and that means boring melodies and predictable chord progressions. I'm one of those that hold scathing opinions about our National Day song, and every year, I haven't been proven wrong. Last year's was a pleasant surprise, and it was because it was a remix. 🤣

I obviously didn't bother to hang a national flag out this month. Whatever for? I face greenery, hellooooo. I don't think the birds care. My neighbors certainly don't. Must we overtly display patriotism? The estate management saw it fit to hang many flags and banners around the premises that those colors are garish enough for all of us. (Note that I'm avoiding any references to the bicentennial celebrations of the founding of Singapore.)

Singapore, you're 54, and you've got a ton of growing up to do. Can we stop protesting and being a public nuisance over S$54 Huawei phones? This cannot be what it means to be Singaporean. We need to address what the government and society believe as 'harmonious multi-culturalism' and open our eyes to #EverydayRacism (even the Singapore Kindness Movement looks like they could use a lesson), and really practice inclusiveness. Majulah Singapura. 🇸🇬

You got your work cut out for ya, Singa the Courtesy Lion.
