We weren’t going to cook for our first night in Margaret River. Made a reservation and drove out for food. We didn't make reservations and tried our luck at La Scarpetta Trattoria. They had one table for us. Whewww!
Data connection is patchy here, except in town, and wherever wifi is provided (not many places offer it). We took the chance to check out information and reviews about the restaurants and wineries in the area. Then we proceeded to book the rest of our meals for the week. Hahaha. Mostly lunch, really, at the wineries' restaurants where the food's good and reservations are tight, and they should be made a few days in advance.
Started with salt and pepper squid before getting to all the carbs. There were pappardelle in slow cooked lamb ragu, spaghetti in spicy tomato sauce and baby octopus served in a paper bag, homemade short pasta with pancetta, pecorino cheese cream and pistachio. The table was pleased. This dinner totally satisfied my pasta cravings.
Well, we are here for the wines. Or rather, the friends are. I'm here for the alcohol, and to be educated in the wines of Margaret River. When La Scarpetta Trattoria's house wine is AUD34 for a one-liter carafe, we went for it. (I think it's a 2016 cabernet merlot from Chapman Grove.) These are delightful prices not seen in Singapore restaurants.
