For my sanity and the purposes of socialization with other dogs, I decided that Choya should go to daycare once a week. I needed to work her up to a comfort level for the purposes of boarding in the near future. Found a daycare center that both the man and I are comfortable with because they keep it real, and the staff are efficient, warm and experienced. The dog's temperament and behavior passed the center's evaluation, and seemed all right during the hour there. After a horrific episode with leptospirosis in July 2016, the daycare center and its staff are more stringent with vaccination certification and cleanliness at its premises.
Packed Choya off to her first day at Sunny Heights. With a snack box. It felt like sending a little human to the first day at play-school. I actually got her a snack bag and labeled all of them. 🤦🏻♀️ I was super appreciative of the staff being extra considerate to send me updates, photos and videos because it was her first day at Sunny Heights, her first time ever at a daycare center with so many dogs, and her first experience with swimming in a salt water pool. She didn't make her instructors cry. I guess she gets to go back for more play! Hurhurhur.
I'm not sure how, but she didn't chomp her paws for two days straight. I did put the cone on as a preventive measure, but she only did easy licking and light nibbling. It's either the salt water that aided healing or the stimulation that reset her brains. Or she traded one neurosis for another. Whatever. Swimming can only be good for her patella luxation. It's in our interest to keep her weight within range and strengthen those muscles now to better hold the kneecaps.
