We had to take a raincheck on lunch at the friends' parents’ new home. It was the right thing to do after possibly crossing paths with confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the gym. However, the mom was insistent that we should have a good meal and taste her food. It's Aunty J's way of showing us her care and concern. And our darling friends happily packed it all up for us. OMG. SO MUCH LOVE.
Aunty J even packed along a box of Kerala matta rice for us. Ahhh that's such a lovely gesture because matta grains take so much longer to cook. Fish curry cooked in a claypot, chicken curry, cabbage thoran, rasam (the spicy version), and of course her famous fish cutlets! Our friends said they restrained themselves from eating more than two fish cutlets each so that there would be some left for us. HAHAHAHAH. Thank you for showing such restraint then! There were slices of sugee cake too. Aunty J's not-sweet sugee cake is the best!
We had such a lavish lunch at home. We intentionally kept the food for lunch instead of dinner so that our stomachs could eat them all and have the whole day to digest. Actually, we didn't finish all of it in one sitting. We kept a small portion for the man's lunch the next day. He was so wistful that such good food couldn't last. LOL Well, either he has to cook to these standards, or he go do some work for Aunty J and shamelessly ask for her fantastic rasam in return.
The man's birthday is coming up this weekend. However, celebrations are best kept to the minimum. We're not exactly meeting up with many humans. Definitely not throwing any dinner parties. This type of gift, of homecooked food delivered with love...... is the best sort of birthday gifts for the man! At 44-going-on 45 years old, the man is super grateful for birthday presents from friends and their parents. Totally not necessary, but very much appreciated.
