We wouldn’t have had this lovely night but for the supremely understanding friends. We were terribly late because of work calls and shit that hit the fan (not literally and not the carpet). Sucky traffic and a horrid parking situation everywhere meant that we almost didn’t make it to dinner. But we did. Whewwwww. What a relief to sit down to a not-too-crowded food center at Chinatown Complex.
We were supposed to have claypot rice here with champagne and red wine. But one claypot rice stall was sold out by 7.15pm, and the other stall doesn’t deliver to this section of seats at the food center. Fine, we swopped out to other foods since the stalls here generally do good food. We had easy zi char dishes and loads of pork satay. Our alcohol that were intended to complement claypot rice still went well with these foods.
Smith Street Taps hosted a Halloween beer x nasi lemak event on the same night. I didn’t get tickets because it featured a lot of IPAs. Since we were there for dinner anyway, we could just get other beers too. I tried my luck at the stall K.R. Banana Leaf and got a plate of nasi lemak. Woohooo. We quite like its biryani and its sambal tumis. Always wanted to try its nasi lemak, but never made it for breakfast. Thrilled to taste it tonight. It’s perfect for dinner plus wine too!
The friends are seriously into their wines, and boutique producers. They brought actual wine glasses, champagne from Delamotte and a lovely 2006 Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja from R. Lopez de Heredia. Just as we started on the champagne, the other friends came by and poured us a glass of Bollini’s 2018 Pinot Grigio Rosato Vigneti Delle Dolomiti IGT. Oooh. It was super refreshing in this heat! They couldn't stay or join this table. Gatherings are still capped at five per group/table; no intermingling. :P Lots to eat and plenty to drink. Our hearts were full. My bladder held. All our bladders held. Yayyy!
