SCALED by Ah Hua Kelong

The friends took us to SCALED by Ah Hua Kelong on Hamilton Road. It's the kelong's showcase of small plates using local recipes and the freshest seafood. However, three of us at the table here have got allergies to seafood (mostly shellfish), except for the man. LOL We did ask ourselves what we were doing there for dinner, but hey, there were some fun menu items to nibble on. Food was good. We popped an antihistamine before eating, and we didn't intend to gorge that much.

Ordered starters of Shimeiji Fries served with hazelnut butter and shoyu mayo, and Fried Crispy Squid with Thai pesto and spicy chinchalok. They were amazing! Roasted Prawns topped with seaweed butter and braised kelp. The friends brought a bottle of Austrian Wachau riesling that was big on apples and apricots. It brought out all the sweetness in the seafood and spices. How fun!

We shared mains. This wasn't meant to be a heavy dinner. We wanted to eat, have some drinks, and get in a great conversation. We had Prawn Dashi Aglio Olio, which had such a unique twist with its fried prawn heads, roasted prawns and prawn stock. You could opt for it be be spicy or not. I took quite a fair bit of the pasta. Super tasty. I loved that Kong Bah Grouper! It was brilliant. It was braised in dark soy, and served with seasoned short grain rice, and fennel celery achar

Skipped dessert. Adjourned to the friends' living room for more wine, got introduced to 'Ted Lasso' (on Apple TV+. We loved it although neither the man or I know anything about football or soccer), and shared a hazelnut tart. Wooohoooo. Then we got home before 11pm to take the dog out for her bedtime pee. An early dinner, and then a night like this are the best, since none of us can do drinks and keep our eyes open till midnight anymore. Heh.
