I was pleased to find really decent food at Maisal Nasi Padang at Yio Chu Kang Road. (It's directly opposite the retro ICB Shopping Center. There's an open air carpark round the corner at Lim Tua Tow Road, and some street parking along Teck Chye Terrace in front of the other restaurants.) This stall does their paru in a rempah and it’s the soft version I love. Yay. Since this ‘Circuit Breaker Lite’ (or 'CB-Lite') is about supporting small hawker stalls that aren’t online, I also make trips out to get lunch from this stall. In fact, prior to 'CB-Lite', I've never eaten at the stall either — I always get their food to-go.
The brand-less but decent quality tiffin carrier that I never got around returning to Bollywood Veggies last year (when they offered food delivery during lockdown Circuit Breaker), has been pretty useful. I make an effort to utilize it, and now, it’s being used almost daily. Heh. I also have another smaller three-tiered La Gourmet tiffin that's pretty handy too. Both can’t hold soup or much gravy of course. The tiffin works really well when it contains point-point rice and nasi padang. The rice soaks up any gravy sloshing around.
That day, the man didn’t have breakfast, so he wanted many things — sambal goreng, sayur lodeh, sambal ikan bilis and paru. He was super happy. I wasn’t hungry, so it was just begedils and paru for me. Four begedils for me. Tehehehe. Yup, FOUR. They’re made small and so easy to eat. The sambal belado is gorgeous.
