We had a reservation for dining in at Kotuwa to kick off S's 43rd birthday celebrations. However, the date fell during the last few days when dine-in was permittd but is restricted to two persons. Bummer. Instead of pushing our reservation to another date, we decided to order in and have ourselves a nice dinner. We weren't gonna take the chances to push the reservations when they're always fully booked.
Made the order via the restaurant's Oddle, and we could set delivery time to be between 6 - 6.30pm. When the food arrived neatly packed in their tubs, the man and I thought that we didn’t order enough food. But when we transferred them out into dishes to be kept warm in the oven, it turned out to be quite enough for four stomachs!
The Sri Lankan crab curry was a must. The curry held one decent 600g-700g of crab. It was good for two or three persons, depending on how many voracious crab eaters there are at the table. It was definitely enough for us. Ordered the rest of the dishes around that. Chicken kottu, polos ambula (baby jackfruit cooked in coconut with toasted Sri Lankan spices), lychee achcharu, and a meat of poricha erachi (fried beef cheek in tamarind, sweet chilli and lime). Went for broke and added lamb curry. It was a good spread. The man was a tad sad that I didn’t order the dhal. LOL He really wanted to try Sri Lankan dhal and Kotuwa’s iteration. Oops. Next round then.
I didn't bother ordering rice. Cooked a pot of good basmati at home. 2½ cups of grains. Quite a lot. I had thought 2 cups would be enough, but decided to just throw in that 0.5. In case. Hahahaha. To my surprise, that amount of rice was completely wiped out among four of us. HAHAHAHAH. Man, the food was great. The spices were lovely — lower on the fennel and cumin, but heavier on lemongrass and tamarind, and even chillies; very different from what we’re all used to. Went very well with red wine. What a wonderful dinner for us!
