Right in the middle of a heatwave, a laksa craving struck. I love the dry laksa from Daisy's Dream Kitchen. I also like those bowls of laksa that hotel cafes serve up. They're kinda elegant, and the broth is always good. But tonight, I didn't feel like popping out to get one of those bowls with giant prawns, crayfish or lobster. I didn't need the 'best of' in town. I only needed a serviceable version. And this stall would have to be opened for dinner. It's impossible to sit outdoors in the sweltering heat to slurp up a piping hot bowl of spicy laksa.
Stopped by 328 Katong Laksa's Katong outlet at 8pm. It had been a sweltering day and we could still feel the heat from the asphalt at 7pm-ish. Took a short stroll and plonked ourselves at an outdoor table under the ceiling fan. There were two fans above us in this aisle, it definitely cooled the area a fair bit. Coconut water helped loads too. Two coconuts provided the much needed hydration for me.
The man was a happy camper. He had his with otah and extra cockles. I also passed him all of my cockles. Heh. I like my cockles bloody and raw with a ton of garlic. I don't like them cooked. I didn't know onsen eggs were in fashion with laksa. The man ordered one for me. I didn't feel like eggs tonight, so I simply took half and the other yolk, and passed half of the 'white' to the man.
Went for broke and ordered a big bowl for myself. Hungry lah. Slurpped it all up slowly since it was temperature-hot and I didn't feel like perspiring buckets just to quaff it in super quick time. There was no rush. There's minimal nutritional value in this dinner I suppose. But it was satisfying, and my stomach was happy. I haven't had laksa for months, methinks. Not even the dry laksa version.
