Sushi Nibbles

Somehow the schedules cooperated when I had a break in these two crazy weeks at work. I could take 2.5 hours out for lunch with C. She stopped by Seoul, and is visiting Singapore for the week (a work trip) and staying over the weekend before flying out to Tokyo for more work meetings and then home. We must meet at least once. Work is crazy this period for us, and we're hard pressed to push out two hours for a meet; in the end, we managed to do drinks and this lunch. Yay!

Had lunch at Miraku. C wanted an easy but not an upscale Japanese sushi-ya. "Under SGD250 lunches please!" she said. "It's an occasion, but it isn't a wallet-busting exercise." Okay, can. There aren't many of these around that I would want to allocate stomach space for. Miraku is still at the top of my list. The restaurant might be moving to Tanjong Pagar ICON at the end of the year. That's still a convenient location.

Passed on the beer and the umeshu today. Opted for a small bottle of sake. Loved it that it came in a 500ml portion. Small bottles come in 300ml, and that's too little for two persons, and too much for one at lunch. 500ml is perfect. We both had the omakase set, which gave a wider range of food and fish. I blinked at the size of the oyster. It's a summer rock oyster. This one was gigantic! It was delicious. Food was sterling, as usual. Lots of shiny fish for me, and lots of otoro and chutoro for C. Loved the dessert which came in the form of bite-sized fruits.

We were super happy to have made time for each other. She's a good friend and we both appreciate each other's quirks and we value this friendship. It has been wayyyy too long since we last met in Seattle, also at a sushi joint. It was soooo good to catch up. The years simply melted away, and we picked up right where we left off on social media and texts a week ago.
