We needed dinner, and decided to have a hang at Beastly Girls. They were doing a thing — Beastly Girls After Dark Menu X Lepus Hole Wine. Well it's not exactly an event and neither were we invited guests. It's just a thing. Suited us great for a casual night — to have decent wine and pub grub that isn't just chicken wings and pizza.
Lepus Hole Wine showcased wines from Romania. Since it was the Halloween weekend, they trotted out the 'Dracula' brand of wines. There were Dominion Dracula (a red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Fetească Neagră grapes), Principe Dracula (a white wine from Sauvignon Blanc grapes), and Castellum Dracula (a dark red from the Fetească Neagră grape). I was oddly not keen on a more robust red tonight or a single grape varietal. After tasting a few wines, I didn't mind when the man opted for the lighter Dominion Dracula. It was quite pleasant.
I couldn't help but giggle at the marketing spin people put on Romania and Dracula. I certainly don't feel sorry about actual sadistic Wallachia prince-ruler Vlad III/Vlad the Impaler/Vlad Drăculea 1448-1476. I feel sorry for Bram Stroker's Count Dracula who came to fictional life in 1897 as an enigmatic Transylvania Count.
Tonight's pub grub was rather satisfying. There were sausages in the form of pork bratwurst, one topped with hae bi hiam and the other with cararmelized onions. There was a classic cheeseburger. That burger had to appear to fill the man's tummy. The man even brought two bottles of hot sauce to lend a bit of depth to the meats. Added on crab kueh pie tie. The pork and prawn meatballs were so delicious that we had two servings of that.
It was rather unexpected, but quite fun — we ran into friends and their floofs, and other familiar faces. Choya was quite pleased chilling out with other Very Big Floofs. Each floof minded their own business. Good boys and girls! The overhead fans cooled the area, making it comfortable enough for us to be having wine and conversation for two hours. But we needed loads of iced water to balance out the alcohol and hydrate!
