Yan Ting is closed for renovations and will only reopen next February. There's a limited tasting menu available. It works for hotel guests, and people who're just in the area and don't mind a two-dish meal or something. They would have lobster noodles or spinach tofu or fried rice.
This "alternate venue" is an event space a.k.a seminar room at the far end of the lobby on the ground floor. Now, when S and I really don't mind this space, we asked if there's our favorite foods from Yan Ting's chefs that could be savored.
S has dietary restrictions, so I left it to her to organize our tiny menu. With sufficient notice, we're certain that the kitchen could do what we needed. She couldn't take most of the noodles and I wasn't interested in rice. So it was our usual seafood vermicelli by way of carbs. That was still so tasty.
Tonight was totally 'soup weather'! Now, the kitchen could do soup for us, but not two portions. SO S ORDERED A WHOLE POT OF PORK RIB AND WHITE RADISH SOUP FOR 10 PERSONS. I couldn't stop laughing. Luckily for her, I love soup. She does too. In the end, we packed home four portions of soups (with a bowl for the husbands), and we actually slurpped up THREE BOWLS of soup EACH at dinner.
Now, there's even dessert. Somehow, the pastry chef agreed to do a gluten-free and dairy-free tart for us. There were fruit tarts, and two types of chocolate tarts. Wow!!! We had the fruit tart as dessert, and the chocolate tarts were packed to-go. S ordered so well. What a delightful meal.
