Modern Thai Bistro 'Hue'

Finally stopped by modern thai bistro hue for dinner. Its modest menu is well-practiced and the flavors are really decent. I was pleasantly surprised. I keep pronouncing it as 'Hoo-ue-y', as in Hue in central Vietnam. It's meant to be pronounced as 'hiwww', as in 'hiwww khao' หิว (ข้าว), meaning hungry.

The restaurant welcomes dogs outdoors. However, there is only ONE table that is comfortable in the rain and keeps us dry. The fan also hits this table, and not the rest of the outdoor tables. The rest are impossible. Rather uncomfortable chairs and the floors will be wet and not ideal for dogs to lie on. Bring a mat for your floofs if you want them on the chairs.

That night, it rained out exactly between 5.15pm to 6.45pm. Hue is located in a shophouse in Jalan Besar. So its 'porch' area holds the outdoor tables. It has a canvas cover that doesn't keep out the rains. The sides are wide open and our tropical storms are fierce. The outdoor tables were soaked and so was that floor. Luckily we made reservations and got the sheltered table and dry floor. Otherwise I wouldn't have wanted to eat there.

There was a complimentary starter that came as a cube of watermelon sprinkled with fried shallots. Heh. We didn't have that much stomach space, so we kept our orders conservative. Ordered a small 180g barramundi steam-baked in paper, a chicken leg massaman curry, and crispy pork belly with a tangy sauce of garlic, coriander and chilli

The flavors of our food were robust, full and nicely blended. This 'fusion' isn't too out there. I still get the familiar flavors, but with a twist. That pork belly was good, but all belly was scary. I couldn't finish it. Made it to dessert in the form of a key lime tart with basil sorbet.
